“There’s certain good things about being alone”

Lou Bloom (Jake Gyllenhaal) is energetic, efficient and willing to go the extra mile. He lives a mostly nocturnal, loner existence, always looking for an opportunity to get a leg up. He gets by peddling petty stolen wares until he chances upon a car crash on the freeway, and this his new career path – shooting crime scenes and selling them to a TV news network, presided over by Nina (Rene Russo). Nina’s hunger for ratings is complemented by Bloom’s ghoulish ability to capture violence and drama in the suburban streets of Los Angeles. When ratings seasons begins, the desire for the “perfect shot” escalates, no matter what the cost.

“The film crackles with fetid electricity amid a strange nocturnal beauty.” — The Sydney Morning Herald
