“We said we wanted a new start. This is it.”

The Academy Award-winning Minari is a film of great personal significance to writer-director Lee Isaac Chung, who based the film on his own childhood experiences. Following his own kind of American Dream, Jacob Yi (Steven Yeun, Burning) moves his young family from California to rural 1980s Arkansas, with visions of starting a prosperous farm growing Korean vegetables. This new life is a constant source of concern for his wife Monica (Yeri Han), who frets about being too far from a hospital in case their young son David’s (Alan S. Kim) heart condition flares up. Hope arrives from Seoul in the form of grandmother Soon-ja (Yuh-jung Youn).
