When Mel (Madeleine Sami) and Jen (Jackie van Beek) discover that they’ve been dating the same two-timing man, their romantic cynicism leads them into an ethically dubious line of work. In exchange for a small fee, the women begin an agency for “breaker upperers” — crashing weddings, faking deaths and staging kidnappings on behalf of clients who want a painless end to their relationships. Business is booming as the zany pair perform increasingly elaborate stunts until Mel breaks the golden rule: don’t get attached to the clients. The Breaker Upperers gleefully continues the recent wave of delightful Antipodean comedies. No punchline is too outlandish and no set piece is too surreal in this riotous and absolutely exhilarating comedy of errors.
