“The sheep intertwines with the farmer’s being”

Majestically shot, Rams is a wry comedy set in a spectacular, weather-swept valley, about two brothers: gentle Gummi (Sigurður Sigurjónsson) and boozer Kiddi (Theodór Júlíusson). They’re two men who have lived next to each other for forty years without speaking to each other, obstinately ignoring each other while tending to their pedigree ancestral flock. (If they really have to make contact, they send a dog over with a note in its mouth.) When a threatening infection comes to town, the dog might not be enough to save their heritage. Winner of the Prix Un Certain Regard at Cannes, where it received a 10-minute standing ovation, Rams is an outstanding gem from director Grímur Hákonarson.
