The remarkable first feature of Rosemary Myers, Girl Asleep is an exuberant, fully realised vision of ‘70s Australian suburbia. Greta (Bethany Whitmore) is about to turn 15, and experiencing all the joyful discoveries and terrifying anxieties which come with it. Making matters worse, she’s the new girl in town, the only friend she’s made is an insufferably sweet geek, a trio of mean girls are taunting her daily, plus an overbearing mum and an endlessly dad joke-cracking dad.
